13 Feb Clayton Brothers Quintet LIVE at Jazz Standard 6 nights in a row
For the FIRST time The Clayton Brothers Quintet performed at the Jazz Standard for 6 straight nights. Unfortunately due to a serious illness, Jeff Clayton was not able to travel, so the week was dedicated to him. Fortunately vibraphonist, Stefon Harris, was able to sub for Jeff the entire week. John said it was a unique challenge to write old Clayton Brother arrangements for a vibraphone and trumpet, but it worked beautifully. Lines were out the door and around the street. I had an opportunity to take my staff who worked so hard on behalf of these artists, so it was great to share the evening with Samantha Janeen and Fulvia Orlando.
Lots of friends came during the week to see the band, including Ron Carter and Monty Alexander. David Alvarez did a great job in the drum chair, previously held by Obed Calvaire for 13 years. We look forward to going into the studio soon, and a repeat performance at the Standard.
